What is it?

Sources of Strength is a strength-based, comprehensive wellness program that focuses on suicide prevention but impacts other issues such as substance abuse and violence. See the strengths wheel at the top of the page.

The program is based on encouraging relational connections in social groups to change peer social norms about help seeking and encourages individuals to assess and develop strengths in their life.

Sources Leadership (a group of students and adults) will meet monthly to plan and execute a monthly message campaign. These campaigns will utilize different mediums and strategies designed to connect with as large an audience as possible. There will be public art installations, billboard and radio pushes, public events and concerts, opportunities for resource sharing/referrals… the Leadership will dream up and then execute these messages monthly. We will need lots of support in promoting all of this.

Spreading hope, help, & strength community-wide

Using local faces and voices we will implement Sources of Strength as a community-based program. We will target middle school, high school, and college-aged individuals, but the messages are for all ages.

We hope to lead the program with involvement from individuals, student groups and clubs, nonprofits and health agencies, faith-based organizations, and local government and civic leaders.

We are looking for participation from all corners of our County so that our positive messages will bring hope and change to all the people of our community. Are you interested in collaborating for good with us?

local funding & Facilitation

LIFT Youth Center Inc has been looking forward to launching Sources of Strength in Catoosa County for several years and now is the time! As a part of our community’s recovery from the pandemic, in the face of staggering rates of anxiety, depression and suicide, and because we ALL want to see an increase in support, positivity and connection, LIFT is honored to serve as the Program Facilitator. We are also thankful for the funding to begin the launch provided by a grant from NGEMC’s Foundation: Operation Round Up. We hope that this program continues to be a community effort to benefit our citizens and families.
