Three options for
summer programming!

Outdoor adventure trips

This summer, LIFT is offering 6 outdoor all day adventure trips. Each trip will be a chance for adventure and new experiences for our students. 

  • A registration fee of $20 is required for each trip to help cover costs. This fee is non-refundable. A limited amount of scholarship funding is available. If needed, please call LIFT Youth Center to request this assistance and to sign-up.
  • All students must be a Catoosa County middle or high school student and must be enrolled with LIFT for the 23-24 school year to register for Outdoor Adventure Trips.
  • Additional waivers will be required for these trips and must be completed for participation.
  • Please note the departure times from LIFT Youth Center when registering for each trip, we will not wait for late arrivals.
  • If weather hinders the original trip plans we will be in touch with an alternative to consider.

SODDY GULF

Soddy Gulf - Creek Swimming/Hiking

We will travel to a wonderful creek outside of Soddy Daisy, TN (referred to as the Big Soddy Creek Gulf) to play in the water, learn lessons about water quality and stream life, and do some hiking along the trail that follows the creek. Students must be able to swim to attend this trip. This will be a fun day of cool water and Tennessee mountainside.

Cherokee Rock Village

Cherokee Rock Village - Rock Climbing

We will travel to Cherokee Rock Village outside of Sandrock, AL for a day of top rope climbing and exploring. This County Park is a beautiful place to spend a day, with spectacular views and stunning scenery. We will use trained, experienced climbing guides to lead us in learning the basics of outdoor rock climbing.

High Point Climbing

High Point Climbing

Due to the weather forecast we have changed this trip to High Point Climbing. Students will get the opportunity to try several different types of indoor climbing.

Hiwasse River

7.11.23

Hiwasse River - White Water paddling/Fishing

We will travel to Reliance, TN to float 6 miles down the beautiful (and cold!) Hiwasee River in pairs using inflatable, two-person kayaks. When we finish our float we will get to do some fishing with a guide who will provide some gear, but if you have your own, you are welcome to bring it! This will be a fun day of paddlin', chillin' and fishin'.

Greenway Farms

Greenway Farms - Mountain Biking & SUP's

We will travel to Hixson to Greenway Farms on the North Chickamauga Creek. We will use Chattanooga Guide Adventures to provide all needed safety gear and equipment for our students to do some Mountain Biking and to use Stand Up Paddle Boards on the creek. Students must be able to swim to attend this trip.

Crockford-Pigeon Mountain

Crockford-Pigeon Mountain - Caving/Exploring

We will travel to the Crockford-Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area outside of Lafayette, GA for a day of exploring and an introduction to caving. Half the group will spend a few hours hiking through the trees and boulders of "RockTown" at the top of the mountain while the other half goes under the mountain at Petty John's Cave.

Outdoor skill workshops

This summer, LIFT is offering 6 half day Outdoor Skill Workshops. There will be 3 outdoor skill topics covered – each offered on two different dates. Students should pick only one date for each workshop.

  • All students must be a Catoosa County middle or high school student and must be enrolled with LIFT for the 23-24 school year to register for Outdoor Adventure Trips.
  • All workshops will be held at Elsie Holmes Nature Park (88 Ben Holmes Dr, Ringgold, GA) from 9a-12p.
  • Students MUST be dropped off and picked up FROM THERE. You must check in your student with a LIFT Staff member – do not leave a student there unattended. 
  • Limited transportation home following the workshop may be requested, but will be based on need and availability. 
  • If weather hinders the day we will instead meet at LIFT Youth Center.

Outdoor cooking

Outdoor Cooking

We will learn the art of outdoor cooking during this Skills Workshop. From Dutch Ovens using hot coals and cast iron, to over an open flame in a campfire, to using a gas-powered camping stove - we'll cook that morning and learn all about the tools, the safety needed and how to not end up sick in the process!

Fire building/ axe yard and knife safety

6.15.23 or 7.20.23

Fire Building/Axe Yard & Knife Safety

We will learn all about fire safety and building, how to get your fuel ready, & how to use a sharp tool safely during this Skills Workshop. From the science behind combustion, to what to do in an emergency, to how to whittle and use an axe safely - we'll practice making fire that morning & learn all about the tools, the safety needed & how to not end up hurt in the process!

Wilderness first aid & orienteering

Wilderness First Aid & Orienteering

We will learn all about responding to the most common outdoor injuries and how to use a compass during this Skills Workshop. From managing an emergency, to fending off infection, to making your way out of the woods if lost - we'll practice first aid with a mock drill and complete an orienteering course!

OPEN REC

Six Wednesdays

9 am - 12 pm

LIFT will be hosting Sports and Recreation programming that will focus on a new sport weekly, encouraging students to:

  • Learn the importance of routine physical activity,
  • Step out of their comfort zone and try new sports/activities,
  • Develop teamwork and leadership skills,
  • Gain new friendships and build social skills,
  • Understand the perseverance and practice needed to learn a new sport.
  • Limited transportation home following the workshop may be requested, but will be based on need and availability.
